Headlines and Gun Laws

This was the headline:

Chicago homicides drop to lowest level since 1965

the city’s Police Department said Wednesday that in 2013 the city recorded the fewest killings since 1965 and saw its overall crime rate fall to level not seen since 1972.

and this was the note I made on it:

Wait for it …
must have been an overturn in the gun ban laws … .

A few days later I saw this article:

Chicago gun sale ban unconstitutional, judge rules

In that article I found this paragraph:

In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Chicago’s long-standing gun ban. And last year, Illinois legislators were forced by a federal appeals court to adopt a law allowing residents to carry concealed weapons in Illinois, the only state that still banned the practice. The resulting state law largely stripped city and officials of surrounding Cook County of their authority to regulate guns, which especially irked officials in Chicago, where residents had to apply for concealed-carry permits through the police chief.

So let’s see.  The first article stated:

The year (2013) did not start promisingly, with more than 40 homicides recorded in January, […] But the rate slowed considerably after that, and by the end of the year the city had recorded 415 homicides, 88 fewer than in 2012 and 20 fewer than in 2011.

When you link in this part from the 2nd article:

last year, Illinois legislators were forced by a federal appeals court to adopt a law allowing residents to carry concealed weapons in Illinois

and put 2 and 2 together, well you can start to see the pattern, can’t you?  It is clear what happened last year that caused the homicide rate to slow considerably.

Ever since I’ve been following Dr John Lott I’ve seen this pattern repeated all over the place.  I saw it after the gun law battle in Washington DC, and I’ve been watching it here in Chicago.  It is a verifiable, undeniable fact that when people are allowed to carry guns, crime goes down.

There is no need for “dialogue” on this anymore, no need to “have a conversation” about this anymore.  The facts are in, the time for talking is done.  The 2nd Amendment works, it always has, and now it’s for the government to sit down, shut up, and let the people arm themselves.

Even the Detroit police chief realizes that now.

Detroit police chief James Craig says more citizens should be armed

Oh, and for the record, as long as people are going to send their children off to public schools, it ought to be standard practice that all teachers are armed and certified in gun/target training.  Anyone that you entrust your children to ought to be able to protect them.

If I Found It In My Mailbox

Hmmmm…interesting question to ponder.

Clipped from House of Eratosthenes

Saw this on House of Eratosthenes a while back, and wanted to put my own thoughts to it.

Even if this were true – because Lord knows there are plenty of rude neighbors out there like this – clearly this person who advocates living in a “safe Christian neighborhood” hasn’t read much of their Bible, if they have one.

Even Christ Himself told His disciples to arm themselves when they went out:

Luke 22:36

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

36 And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.

The sword was even more important than the coat, apparently!

My $.02. 🙂

Joe Perry talks firearms

Aerosmith leader Joe Perry talks ‘Sons of Guns,’ classic firearms, defending the Second Amendment

Perry – who recently referred to himself as a “definite old-school Republican” – also noted that he would like to see some “continuity” in terms of gun laws from state to state.

“It seems ridiculous that you can be in one state with your driver’s license and buy a firearm, and then in the next state it is totally illegal,” he continued. “There are real problems to that, but as soon as you bring up the subject and say ‘gun control’ it sets a red flag. It is definitely a difficult issue, and the bottom line is the Constitution is what it is, and I stand by everything that is in it. Right now, some of the statistics show that some of the safest places in the country are places where law-abiding citizens are allowed to have firearms, and the crime rates are low.”

As a big Aerosmith and Joe Perry fan, I love reading stories like this.  I learned Joe was a Republican a few years ago, but I didn’t know about the gun stuff.  Only adds to the coolness, in my book.  🙂

Exactly!  Moonbattery nails my thoughts perfectly.

The Right to Arm

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either…. The final weapon is the brain.  All else is supplemental.

1.  Don’t pick a fight with an old man.  If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

2   If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3   I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4   When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5  A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers.  The  reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him “Why do you carry a 45?” The Ranger responded, “Because they don’t make a 46..”

6.  The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. “Sheriff, I see you have your  pistol.  Are you expecting trouble?” “No Ma’am.  If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my shotgun.”

7.   Beware the man who only has one gun.  HE  PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there’s more!

I  was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house.  I said I did. She said “Well I certainly hope it isn’t loaded!”  To which I said, “Of course it is loaded, can’t work without bullets!”  She then asked, “Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?”  My reply was, “No not at all.  I am not afraid of the house catching fire either,  but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.  To which I’ll add, having a gun in the house that isn’t loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.”

Obama hates your gun

Whoa!  Lookee what I found in my Reader this morning!  Talk about “Fear the government that fears your guns!”

Having lost that fight, Obama now claims he always held the individual rights view of the Second Amendment, and that he “respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms.” But as a Joyce director, Obama was involved in a wealthy foundation’s attempt to manipulate the Supreme Court, buy legal scholarship, and obliterate the individual right to arms.

Voters who value the Constitution should ask whether someone who was party to that plan should be nominating future Supreme Court justices.

This is a portion of an article called: Obama and the Attempt to Destroy the Second Amendment

I have been reading over on Dr. John Lott’s site that the Obama he hears lately pandering to gun owners is NOT the same Obama he knew a few years ago.  Of course, we knew that.  Dr. Lott wouldn’t lie about something like that.  Now this information about the Joyce Foundation comes out, further proving that what Obama claims to believe, and how he acts on his beliefs, are 2 completely opposing things.

So, are you going to believe what he says, or what he does?
